National American Indian Heritage Month

News & Events | February 19th, 2021

On November 19th. 2020 our commissioners presented a resolution to the Native American Chamber of Commerce of Illinois for its work creating a resourceful environment to assist American Indian businesses and empower future generations of Native Americans toward future growth and success. We take this time to also thank our talented Native American employees on staff for their work protecting our water environment and public health throughout the region. We strive to make a workplace built on diversity and inclusion to serve the diverse municipalities that lie within the MWRD’s boundaries that stretch 882-square-miles across Cook County. Currently, there are an estimated 65,000 Native Americans who live in the Chicago metropolitan area, representing approximately 175 tribal nations. We thank them for their contributions. Below you can see a picture of the resolution written to show our appreciation.
